Wow... can anybody tell the truth on anything... or we in a nation of idiots... One or the other liars or idiots.

1.
I have watched many things on steroids because I have always been thin no matter how many hours i lifted weights. When i played football in high school i was the exact same height and weight i am now, and i always too thin for my position and i almost starting using steroids. If it wasn't for me being having a needle phobia i would have started juicing. I could have been bigger, stronger, and faster. This video really didn't make me feel like kicking myself for not using steroids back in high school i am past the whole being huge phase. I feel like the video goes to show that really no one knows the effects of steroids. I believe that if Greg Valentino can get his arms this big (http://estb.msn.com/i/6B/917B20A6BE353420124115B1A511C7.jpg) using steroids and he has not died then i don't think steroids are all that bad. The video failed to make the point about teenage steroid users. But that's okay because the reporters in the video made the point that they only wanted to look at men who where older. This makes the argument a little bit weaker because the effects of steroids are different in teenagers then middle age men. Yes i do believe steroids can be used responsibly. Steroids are an amazing drug that should be legalized because people should have a choice. And like a hinted before if there was a sure answer to if steroids can kill and if i didn't have to use needles to use steroids i probably would have used them.

2.
I believe that people should be able to use steroids freely, one because it is a personal choice and second the government should not be allowed to stop people's freedom. The testing is really bogus. There really never is a "random" testing. The people who do the testing would never test me. They would only test the top athletes in hopes to prove what steroids really do. I believe that the standards have to be different between high school athletes and professional athletes because in pro-sports there are a lot of records that were set by people that have not used steroids. In pro-sports there is more of a legacy that surrounds the sports. On the high school level it is more about the safety of the kids because they are kids still. I believe that steroids should be used only for recovery in pro-sports. In pro-sports athletes are older and muscle tearing and strains happen more often and i believe it should be used as a way for these athletes to get back on the field faster because they are getting paid too much money to sit on the bench. I do agree with Hoberman, American society has made us push ourself to be the best at everything. It stop being about effort in elementary school, the rest of life is about achievement. I believe that there is a double standard that forces athletes to use steroids because we expect them to be bigger and stronger. When i played in high school i really wanted to use steriods because all the startering linebackers where so ripped and big. I myself played with a lot of heart and i was really fast for my age (4.8 secs yrd dash.... that's fast boiiii!!!!!!) but i was to thin in the coaches mind to play linebacker at the varsity level. I believe if i used steroids to be 225 lbs instead of 164lbs i believe that i could have started and maybe played college ball.

Paraphrase the junkkk

Students overuse quotation in their papers (Lester). When you write a paper only a little bit of the paper should be quotations only about 10%(Lester). Everyone should try to take fewer quotations when researching (Lester).

I wish i had 26 inch biceps

1.
The first article's argument is about the trends of dolls like G.I. Joe dolls getting bigger and more muscular on men. The article says that over the years the bigger and more muscular the dolls have gotten the more discontent males in western society have gotten about their bodies, and more males have tried to be bigger.

The second article's argument argues that these action figures have not had an impact on the youth. The author agrues that plastic can not impact a young child. The author also believes that barbies don't have an impact on little girls and what they think is beautiful.

The third article is more about what men think women want, and how different cultures think what women want. And it argues that men in western cultures always think that really muscular men are more attractive to women but studies have shown that thats not true.

2.
Well the first article seems to be a little more serious, the author seems to almost sound like he is pleading with the audience. He almost sounds like the author who wrote the article about anorexic women from last week. In one sentence the author says "(muscle dysmorphia") It is characterized by obessional preoccupations and implusive behaviors similar to those of classical obessional-compulsive disorder(pg 285)". The author connects muscle dysmorphia to a mental disorder which allows the audience to feel sorry to the victiums of muscle dysmorphia. In the second article the author trys to brush off the problem (muscle dysmorphia) as a joke. He says toward the end of his article "to suggest that even little boys measure manliness by taking a ruler to their G.I. Joes is comical. He doesn't believe that it is a problem and brushes it away i think he uses the fallacy oversimplification.

3.
Well i'm kind of in the middle of the two arguements. I believe that people and pop culture have influenced me more than action figures. I really never had G.I. joe or any other action figures, i think because i argeed with my dad that dolls where for girls not guys. I remember the first movie i can really remember watching over and over again was Blood Sport. Where Jean Claude van Dam is a kick boxer in a deadly underground japenese or chinese tournement. I remember wanting to be just like Jean Claude because he kicked butt. And i believe that has influenced me a little bit. Like i used to bigger like 205lbs in sept. 2007 now im weighing 158 lbs and i don't feel confident in my looks anymore because im not as big as i use to be. I also started playing football at a young age and i believe that also pushed me to be big and muscluar. Even my father, who i love very much, but as a child i always was in aw in how strong he was, even today he is to me super human strong... and i always wanted to out lift him, out do him, show that im more of a man and that always pushed me to be bigger stronger faster (which so happends to be the motto of my high school football team when we lifted).

What really makes me angry is.... (free freewrite!!!)

I myself am a very laid back person. I am very patient, and there are many things that i don't get upset about, but the things that do make me angry make me furious. Just recently another republican senator was caught doing something unethical. Im not saying that all republican senators are unethical, but their cases always seem to hit the news. A senator was caught with child pornagraphy and i believe he was arrested. It seems that republicans are hypocrates, from bill O'reilly with his phone sex scandal thing a couple years back, to rush lembuagh and his addiction to prescription medicine, to the republican senator soliciting sex to a page boy through his blackberry. the republican party's stance is all about being ethical and being the party about american values; prolife, against gay marriage, and fighting for freedom, it seems that there are a lot of party members that are the complete opposite and it makes me furious when they critize us democrates for being unethical and always calling out Bill clinton when even though he did cheat on his wife it wasn't with a 12 year old boy it was with a woman.

E.D. not the type u solve with the little blue pill

1.
Bulimia is binge eating followed by purging through vomiting or laxatives. That does not sound like a woman i wanna date. And anorexia is when someone does not take in enough calories to be at a healthy weight. According to our text eating disorders "have the highest fatality rates of any mental illness" (Alfano pg274). Anorexia and bulimia are also highly O.C.D., so why allow these Pro-ana sites? We don't have a good reason to keep these sites up and running. These sites allow the women and men who use it to feel comfortable with this dangerous disorder. Rather than these people being comforted and feeling okay with their disorder they should be going to therapists to try and fix their problem before they die of mal-nourishment. In our text Clairegirl feels better about skipping meals because the other users the other users do the same thing and feel its okay. That is why i think we should close down these sites.
2.
On the other side these pro-ana sites are helpful to these girls. These sites allow the girls to tell about their experiences of being anorexic. This allows them to see others in their own situation. These people with eating disorders have a very strong will. These girls hopefully will see how the other users of these pro ana sites have become so sick, that they will have the will to be normal and healthy once again.
3.
These sites allows these girls to compete against each other to be the skinniest. They also allow girls to talk about their daily anorexic lives without being judged or told what they are doing is wrong. So i believe that if these sites can some how regulate users that are trying to convince other girls to become anorexic and or to have a couple of doctors for each site to try and council these poor girls.

Fallacies

So i was thinking about being maybe a biologist, a person in a medical lab that maybe takes the samples from people who are sick and identify what bacteria they have that is causing there sickness. The fallacy that some people could assiocate with a biologist is Ad Hominem, like he's a scientist what does he know about dating. i guess that could be one fallacy.

Blog #2_

1.
My initial reaction to the ad was i didn't really understand what they the advertisers where trying to say. The "In Our opinion Darwin was a Runner" ad the title was drew me to read the text. I really don't like this ad campaign at all, it's all about putting runners on a pedestal. Its like an ad for runners to feel better about themselves.
2.
I am not a runner. My knees are so bad i can't without my swelling up and hurting for the rest of the day. That's why i really don't like this ad. It feels almost like they're bragging, that is how the ad makes me feel.
3.
The text in the ads all try to be little people who don't run, like in the "Take a Look at any School Playground. See Anyone Jogging". The last line of the text was what made my blood boil, it says that running is dangerous and it makes people nervous and it says "And you know what, as runners, we are okay with that. it makes runners feel like there in their own little club. The layout on almost every page is visual persuasion with text and a picture. The pictures themselves are not very powerful but the pictures with the text makes a good ad.
4.
the obvious message is to run, be fit, and push yourself.
5.
I believe that the ads are a detrimen. Joggers and runners do the samething, the go out and are doing more than walking fast, they're in stride. The both use the same type of shoes so the advertisers should not segergate the two markets. They spilt their tarket market into two groups, by doing this they cut their potential costumers in half.
6.
To me the strongest appeal is logic in the first ad. I chose logic because it makes a decent arguement. I just think about all the crime shows i watch and the intros of the episodes. A large number of them start with a runner coming across someone's body.

To me the strongest appeal is pathos in the Reebok ad. As a football player almost all my life it shows a lot of character when your running sprints until you puke rinse your mouth and keep running. It shows the person's tuffness. Puking is the bodies line, when you keep running after puking that's you pushing your body and mind past the limit. i connect with that in the ad and that builds an emotional bond with me.
7.
I have to go with the Reebok ad. The Reebok ad would do better in a magazine ad because its not targeted to either joggers or either just runners. Also i took marketing all four years in high school and i have to say the Reebok ads is a much better ad. The image catches my attention, the saying is short and sweet. The Reebok ad sticks in my mind better than the other one.
